How Do Bail Bonds Work in Dallas County?

We Can Help You Post Bail and Get Out of Jail in Denton County and Collin County

Being arrested and charged with a crime can be a scary experience. While it will be important to defend against criminal charges and avoid a conviction when possible, the first thing a person will want to do is get released from custody. This usually requires a person to post bail. Doc's Bail Bonds can help you or your loved one complete the bail bond process. Contact us at one of our office locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to learn how we can help you get out of jail as quickly as possible.

The Bail Bond Process

  1. Arrest and detainment - After being arrested by police officers, a person will be taken into custody at a police department, local jail, or county jail.
  2. Bail is set by the court - A judge will determine a bail amount based on the charges, the person's criminal history, the risk that they may not show up to court, and other factors.
  3. Bail is posted - The defendant can pay the full amount of bail to the court, or Doc's Bail Bonds can post bail for you after you pay 10% of the total bail amount to Doc's. After we post bail, the defendant will come to our office for pictures and signatures.
  4. Released from jail - An inmate may be released after bail has been posted. If you have worked with Doc's to post bail on behalf of a loved one, you are responsible for making sure they appear in court when required. If they miss any court dates, it will cost you.

Bail Bond Hearings

When a person gets arrested and booked for a serious crime, they must wait in jail until a bail hearing. At the hearing, the judge will set the bail amount. This amount may be based on several different factors, such as the seriousness of the crime, any of the defendant's previous convictions, a person's ties to their community, their family responsibilities, and their employment status.

Depending on the specifics of the case, bail may be set by the court based on the charges for Class A and B misdemeanors. If the crime is not severe, a person may be eligible to be released based on time served after being in jail for just a few hours. If the crime is more severe, or if a person is charged with a felony, they must wait in jail until their court date, unless they can afford to post the amount of bail set by the judge.

Fortunately, there is a better option: work with Doc's Bail Bonds to get out of jail by posting a bond to the court. Posting bail will allow you or your friend or family member to be released from police custody. As part of your release, you promise to appear in court for all of your scheduled criminal proceedings. You will usually pay 10% of the total bail to our bail agents, and we will pay the full bail amount on your behalf.

When contacting Doc's Bail Bonds, you should have as much information available as possible, including the full name of the defendant, the jail or detention facility where they are being held, their booking number, and the charges they are facing. If you are unsure about where someone is being detained, we can help you locate an inmate and follow the right procedures to bail them out of jail.
